In a world where disasters have almost become a part of daily life, the activities of educated journalists regarding disasters have become vital to reducing their negative effects on societies. The Disaster Journalism Project, titled "Disaster Journalism: Preventing the News from Turning into a Disaster" aims to address the gap in journalism education by developing comprehensive curricula, guidebooks, and digital materials focused on disaster journalism. Our goal is to cultivate a skilled workforce within media organizations, equipped to effectively combat disasters and contribute to disaster prevention, preparedness, and recovery efforts.
Objectives
Develop a robust Disaster Journalism Course curriculum to be implemented in partner
Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) for a semester.
Create ethical, practical, and safety guidebooks for disaster journalism.
Organize international Learning, Teaching, and Training Activities (LTTA) for journalists.
Transform the guidebooks into digital formats, including podcasts, infographics,
and short videos, to enhance their accessibility and dissemination among target group.
Target Groups
Communication faculty students
Journalism department students
Academicians of the Faculty of Communication
Higher Education Institutions policymakers
Professional journalists
Citizen journalists who share news on digital platforms.
The aim of the video e-learning materials is to enable the target audience to self-regulate their journalistic activities without being constrained by traditional educational processes. These videos will provide valuable insights and training, allowing the target audience to stay informed and adapt to the evolving landscape of disaster journalism. This approach will help the project outputs reach a wider audience quickly and effectively.
The recent news from our project.
